What is Juvederm Voluma XC used for?

Juvederm is used to add volume to the facial tissue through its active ingredient, hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that naturally occurs in the in the human body. It stimulates the production of the connective tissue that plumps the skin (collagen). The production of hyaluronic acid and collagen decreases as you get older. This increases the appearance of sagging and wrinkling of the facial skin.

During the procedure, your doctor, physician assistant, or nurse typically uses a pen to mark the areas to be treated. Your doctor will then inject Juvederm into the targeted area. They will also lightly massage the area to ensure an even distribution and reduce the chance of swelling. The procedure usually takes between 15 and 60 minutes from start to finish, depending on the area treated and the condition of the area being treated. Juvederm injections contain a small amount of pain-reducing lidocaine. This will help minimize any pain or discomfort you feel during treatment and make it go away quickly.

How long does Juverderm Voluma XC last?

As the only filler proven to last up to 2 years, Juvederm Voluma is one of the longest-lasting fillers on the market. The hyaluronic acid in Juvederm Voluma slowly metabolizes over time, so patients often opt for a follow-up treatment when their results start to diminish. Because Juvederm Voluma helps stimulate collagen production, after two years patients often need less product, less frequently to maintain results. Results last longer and patients need fewer syringes to keep their cheeks and mid-face voluminous and lifted.

Juvederm Voluma is currently the only hyaluronic acid filler that yields instant results that can last for up to two years without a maintenance session. It is a fast and convenient solution to minimizing the visual effects of aging and will allow you to feel confident, beautiful and revitalized.

What is the difference between Juvederm Voluma and Juvederm Voluma XC?

The most notable difference between Juvederm Voluma and Juvederm XC is the area of application.

Juvederm Voluma is designed to add volume to the face in order to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and provide a smoother aesthetic. Juvederm Voluma XC is designed for the lips, using an ultra-fine needle to perk up the lips and smooth the appearance of lines around the mouth.

The biggest differences between Voluma and XC are:

  • Texture — When comparing Juvederm Voluma vs Juvederm Voluma XC, the texture has a noticeable difference, mainly in that the texture of XC is similar to pudding while the texture of Voluma is closer to Jello. This thicker texture gives Voluma XC its unique lifting properties and also leads to new areas for where it can be placed in the face.
  • Placement — Voluma is especially designed to be injected deep within the dermis and to lay right on top of your facial bones. The ability to sit deep under your skin and stay in place is precisely what makes Voluma useful for particular injection sites and treatment outcomes. Voluma works best when it is injected into the upper cheek, middle cheek or the chin.

Voluma is placed deep in order to actually provide a lifting and volumizing effect in the upper and mid face areas, which have historically been more challenging to treat. Although Radiesse and Scupltra have both been options for some time, and are still both fillers frequently used at various practices, Voluma has the unique advantage of having longer lasting properties.
